Our training programs focus on building a solid obedience foundation while improving each dog's state of mind through behavioural training. Properly diagnosing and rehabilitating a dog takes time to learn — and requires hands-on experience with a wide range of cases.
Sit Happens takes on cases that most other training companies will avoid. We help clients with any problematic behaviour, from puppy training to extreme aggression rehabilitation. Our in-home and on-site work exposes you to a variety of behaviours that you simply won't see in class environments — or under trainers who don't use balanced methods.
Humans are the biggest influence on a dog's behaviour. Understanding human psychology lets you relate to and understand each client's unique learning style — and prepares you to deal with the people who are a bad influence on their own dog. Includes reading material and homework.
Most training programs fail due to poor communication from the handler. A good dog trainer can read a dog's intent, emotion, and intensity — adapting training in the moment, and avoiding getting bitten. Includes reading material and homework.
The main event. Hands-on exploration of different training methods, techniques, tools — plus the full curriculum of obedience and behavioural training. Includes reading material, homework, and supervised hands-on work with real client dogs.
Beyond becoming a great trainer, our program teaches you how to be a great business owner. Even though we offer positions within the company on graduation, we want you to understand the big picture and have strong business fundamentals.
We get results by practising balanced training methods — both positive and negative reinforcement. Years of experience have shown us that dogs need consistent consequences in their lives in order for long-term independent thinking to develop.
We only accept students with an open mind. Students who understand that no two dogs are the same, and that there are many different ways to train a dog. Students must also understand that our clients hire us to help them with their dogs — that means providing all training options, explaining the pros and cons of each, and allowing the client to make the final decision.

Students who perform well and achieve over 85% on the final exam have the opportunity to work for Sit Happens in their own region.
